Love and Hope is a musical journey stretching back to my Geordie roots.
The title track began life tackling the decline and loss of the North-East's coal mining industry. It was later rewritten to chart the decline of steel making on Teesside: that's the single Love & Hope, (Steel version).
Sir Bobby's Song recalls North-East footballing hero Bobby Robson and was used by the BBC as the theme to a radio tribute.
Like The River caused me no end of trouble. I came up with the first line. My wife, and writing partner, Dawn took that and created the amazing lyrics, but it took me five years to get the song recorded the way I wanted it.
When Morning Comes delves into my childhood - a VERY personal song.
God Abiding Man is a tribute to Homer Joy, the man who wrote the country music classic "Streets Of Bakersfield". Good people are hard to find. Homer was one such. Sadly, he passed away in September 2012.
Other favourites include the fun of Dawn's lyrics in You Lose!, the deep strength in Jimmy's Song and Talking To The Moon.
I think I finally came to terms with recording on this album and the strength of the songs mattered more than before.
